Unlocking Your Device
If you purchased your device through Switch, it may be subject to an unlock policy.
If you brought your own device and it was previously locked to another carrier, you’ll need to contact that carrier to unlock it before activating with Switch.
Below is how unlocking works.
Devices Purchased Through Switch
Devices purchased directly from Switch may be locked to our network for a limited period of time.
To request an unlock, the following conditions must be met:
- The device must be fully paid off
- The associated account must be in good standing
- The line must have been active for a minimum service period (if applicable)
- The device must not be reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraud
If these conditions are met, you may request an unlock by contacting support.
Once approved, unlock processing typically occurs within a few business days.
Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
If you’re bringing a phone from another carrier:
The device must be unlocked before activation.
Switch does not have the ability to unlock devices from other carriers.
You will need to contact your previous carrier directly to request the unlock.
Most carriers unlock devices once:
- The phone is paid off
- The account is in good standing
- Any contract terms have been completed
How to Check if Your Phone Is Locked
On iPhone:
- Go to Settings
- Tap General
- Tap About
- Scroll to Carrier Lock
If it says “No SIM restrictions,” your phone is unlocked.
On Android:
Steps vary by manufacturer.
Check under Network or SIM status in Settings, or contact your current carrier.
Important Notes
Switch cannot unlock devices purchased from other carriers.
If your device is reported lost or stolen, it cannot be unlocked.
Unlock eligibility requirements may change in accordance with applicable regulations.
